Audubon Bound-In Card Specifications

Minimum Card Size: 3 5/8" (includes 1/8” foot trim) X 5 1/8” (includes 1/8” skive rough out)
Maximum Size: Trim Size of the Book (see advertising specifications document)
Maximum Size For Standard Return Postal Rate (return portion): 4 ¼” X 6”

Full Page Inserts –Single-sheet insert: Minimum 80# Text Stock (with a binding premium) or 100# Text Stock (no premium)

Full Page Inserts: All perforation, paper stock information, etc. should be applied to full page inserts as well. See the advertising specifications sheet for full page ad dimensions. Please make sure that all live material falls 3/8” inside the trim. Add 1/8" to all sides of the page trim for a total of 8.5” W X 11.125” H.
Binding Method: Perfect Bound
Positioning For Perforation and Foot Trim: Live matter must be positioned to accommodate the foot trim and rough out. Perforations ½” from binding edge permit easy removal of card.

Approval: Please call the Production Director for issue job numbers, print quantity and due dates before printing cards. All inserts must be approved by the Production Director to assure that all specifications have been met. Send a proof/blue line for approval before any inserts is printed to:

PACKING AND SHIPPING SPECIFICATIONS FOR SUPPLIED INSERTS/BOUND-IN CARDS

Cards should be brick piled on skids or pallets, marked for Audubon and sent to:

PLEASE NOTE: 1) Bill of Lading must list Audubon’s Issue Job Number (changes each issue). Call 212-979-3138 for assistance. 2) All deliveries of card/inserts must be by appointment, scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Call 414-566-2100, 24 hours a day for an appointment.

1. GENERAL INFORMATION FOR SUPPLIED INSERTS PACKING:

a) Brick stack on 40” X 48” solid deck pallets. Backbone and face must not be curled.
b) Moisture barrier on top and bottom of load to prevent moisture damage to material.
c) Loads are not to exceed 40” from the floor to the top of the load.
d) Loads must be prepared so that corner damage does not occur.

2. SIGNATURES – (4, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32, PAGE):

Pack in 6 – 8 inch lifts and must be neatly jogged.
Note: Ribbons, Tabloids, Digest folds – pack in convenient lifts and must be neatly jogged. Each layer should be separated by a sheet of corrugated material.

3. GATEFOLD:

a) Jogged to backbone – (preferably uncompensated)
b) If necessary, use a two piece telescoping power pack carton to fit pallet, or call pack.
c) Each layer should be separated by a sheet of corrugated material.

4. CARTONS/POWER PACKS:

Cartons/Power Packs should be used when the nature of material shipped does not permit brick stacking, or unless additional protection is deemed necessary.

5. IDENTIFICATION OF MATERIAL:

a) Each pallet must be clearly marked as follows:

b) Attach a sample to each side of skid for ID of contents; mark folio and version, region, edition or area ID.

6. PRODUCT PROTECTION:

All pallets should be wrapped with a clear substance (i.e. plastic) so that loads may be visually inspected upon arrival.

7. BANDING:

(Steel or Plastic) Loads should be banded both ways on a pallet with a top. 3 bands each way – 6 total.

8. PACKING LIST:

A packing list indicating versions and quantities shipped should be included with all shipments.

9. VERSION CHANGES:

Please attach an envelope on top of one (1) load with twenty-five (25) samples of each different insert/version shipped.

10 QUANTITY:

Please specify quantities per carton, per skid, total quantity per skid.

NOTE: FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN ADDITIONAL CHARGES FOR EXTRA HANDLING AND WILL BE PASSED BACK TO THE CUSTOMER.
