I feed the birds daily. In fact, my neighbors thank me for feeding them as it is entertainment for them. I love birds

Here in Portland we also had

Here in Portland we also had a week + of under 32 degrees weather. I used toe and hand warmers on the hummingbird feeders where they drink from (I had made the mistake of just keeping my eye on the glass part but was enlightened when I happened to see a hummer checking each hole and flying off...) I lost the screw on cap for hanging off one of my feeders so I set it directly on a heating pad and was amused to see them sprawled out soaking up heat.

We have a hopper feeder, suet

We have a hopper feeder, suet feeder & a tube feeder and also use an electric water bowl (usually used for dogs). We also have a diverse landscape, from evergreen shrubs & trees to ornamental grass and a small wood pile of misc branches.

I have seen as many as 6 male cardinals and as many females with them at my feeders in the winter. When there are no birds I know hawks are around. Sometimes four hawks. Those cardinals know when they are here. I bang a pot with a spoon and scare the hawks away. I am sure they get dinner somewhere but I like to see the cardinals.

Just remember those hawks

Just remember those hawks burn more energy than your cardinals do. The number one killer of male raptors is anemia. You'd be more kind to swap you pot and spoon for a pellet gun.

Killing raptors is illegal!!!

Killing raptors is illegal!!! Good grief!!

It is illegal to harm raptors

It is illegal to harm raptors of any kind.

Hi Daisy - My winter job is

Hi Daisy - My winter job is keeping my bird feeders full - 40 pounds a week - as here in Cleveland Heights, Ohio I have a bright green parakeet - budgie - at my feeders for the last 2 months. He/she comes 3-4 times a day even in the cold and snow. I don't know if it escaped or was released, but seems to be happy with all the sparrows, cardinals and bluejays. How it stays warm I can't know but so far so good. Anne
