On May 18, 2006, Greater Ozarks Audubon Society and the Missouri Department of Conservation hosted Raising Cane Day at the Drury-Mincy Conservation Area near Springfield, Missouri. The conservation area is a critical component of the Ava/Caney Mountain IBA. Th e purpose of the event was to celebrate an innovative partnership to accelerate giant cane restoration on tributaries of the White River that flow through the Ava/Caney Mountain IBA. Representatives from Audubon Missouri and the Bull Shoals Field Station also attended and participated in recognition of their contribution towards purchase of a specially designed backhoe attachment that will be used to facilitate cane restoration.
